Types Of Braces
Dedicated Dothan, AL Family Orthodontist
At McClimans Orthodontics, we understand that the needs of every patient are different, which is why we offer a wide variety of treatment options to help you achieve the smile that you've always wanted. Having straight teeth can be beneficial to your overall health by reducing the risk of oral disease or headaches; however, the aesthetics of your smile is not a determining factor for the condition of your overall health. When you come in for your appointment with our Dothan orthodontist, Dr. Tee McClimans, he will evaluate your teeth and jaw to determine if orthodontic treatment is necessary. If the jaw and teeth are not properly aligned, they can prevent you from speaking and chewing properly - or in extreme cases, you may be referred to a surgeon for care.
Our goal is to offer our patients with the best treatment possible to satisfy their needs for a healthy and beautiful smile. We offer a wide variety of treatment options, so if you're not sure which one is best for you, we encourage you to ask as many questions during your consultation with Dr. McClimans.
Metal Braces
Our traditional metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic appliances because they offer a reliable, economical, and effective treatment option. These braces are made of a high-grade stainless steel that is fixed to your teeth. Due to the advancements in technology, metal braces have become lighter in weight and more comfortable to wear. Our metal braces treatment consists of a metal band that wraps around the back molars in the upper and lower jaw.
A small bracket is then cemented to the surface of each individual tooth and a thin metal wire is placed over the brackets to guide the tooth into its proper positions. Using a small elastic band, the orthodontist will secure the archwire in order to reduce any shifts during the treatment process. The best part about metal braces is that you can choose from a variety of elastic band colors for a more unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic Braces
CSimilar to our traditional Dothan, AL braces system, ceramic braces also use brackets and archwires as part of the treatment; however, these braces are made of a translucent, ceramic material. The brackets are designed to blend in with the tooth's natural color and are a popular choice for a less noticeable treatment option. Because they are made of a ceramic material, this orthodontic appliance tends to be less durable and require a little more attention than their metal counterparts. In addition, ceramic braces are more expensive due to their subtle look.
Invisalign
Invisalign is a clear plastic aligner that has become increasingly popular because they are practically invisible to others and easily removable. These clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth to provide complete comfort when worn. You can make your way into achieving a straighter and more beautiful smile without having to worry about the metal brackets and wires. Because the Invisalign aligners are not fixed to your teeth, this orthodontic appliance requires no food restrictions and makes it easier to brush and floss your teeth. Invisalign must be worn for around 20 to 22 hours a day and needs to be changed out every 2 weeks in order to effectively straighten teeth.
