At McClimans Orthodontics, we're proud to help our patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles and maintain them for a lifetime through quality orthodontic treatment. As a leading orthodontist serving the Dothan and Enterprise areas, we strive to create a personalized treatment plan for every patient we see, helping them achieve a new smile in a way that works for them. While we treat patients of all ages, many of our patients are teenagers receiving adolescent orthodontics – and setting the stage for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Why Should Teens Get Braces?

Orthodontic treatment has become something of a rite of passage for teens – but why is this? It turns out, there are a number of great reasons. For one, by the time a child reaches adolescence, most of the adult teeth have grown in. This means any changes made through orthodontics will act on the adult teeth, creating permanent improvements. Furthermore, teenagers have a high metabolism and experience growth spurts that we can take advantage of to speed up treatment. And finally, orthodontic treatment is so common as a teenager that teens are more likely to be ok with getting braces – and some even want braces just to fit in with their friends!

Dr. McClimans will work with you or your child to help decide on the perfect treatment plan for your unique situation.

How Long Does Orthodontic Treatment Last?

Every patient is different, and the length of your treatment will depend on the specifics of your case. Some patients who don't need extensive orthodontic correction may have a treatment time as short as 6 months, while other patients in need of more complex adjustments may need braces for 2 years or more. It all depends on your case and the unique characteristics of your orthodontic condition.

That said, the changes made through orthodontic treatment last a lifetime. After you finish with braces or Invisalign, you'll need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth from moving back to their old positions. But if you wear your retainer as directed, your new smile will "set" into place permanently – and you'll get to enjoy it for the rest of your life.
